FLOATILLA: GREENWICH TALL SHIPS FESTIVAL 2014

Photographs from Floatilla: an art installation for the Greenwich Tall Ships Festival.
Maps and paper craft techniques were used to bring to life the nautical heritage of Greenwich in a display of floating ships within a theatrical scene of world travel and imaginary creatures from distant lands. The installation was exhibited to the public within a shop window display on Nelson Road neighbouring Greenwich market.
The art work was created by Cabinet of Curiosity C.I.C (Caroline Collinge and Edmond Salter), Eglinton Primary School and Greenacres Primary School. Within art workshops with pupils from the schools we introduced a range of  techniques including: collage, marbling and paper engineering. This resulted in participants creating their own individual characters that were collaged from geographical magazines (circa 1940) and aeronautical balloons made from maps which contributed to the overall art installation.
Our project was commissioned by the Royal Borough of Greenwich and supported through their Arts Community Fund.
